The Korogocho Slum Upgrading Programme

The Korogocho Slum Upgrading Programme was initiated by the Kenyan government in partnership with the Italian Cooperation to improve living conditions in Korogocho, one of Nairobi's oldest informal settlements.

Year: 2008.

Location: Korogocho, Nairobi, Kenya.

How the tactic was applied: The project utilized a participatory approach, involving residents in planning and implementation. Community organizations facilitated dialogue between the government and locals, ensuring upgrades met the community's needs.

Challenges/Benefits Noted: A significant benefit was the alignment of infrastructure upgrades with community expectations, fostering a sense of ownership. However, challenges included coordinating diverse stakeholder interests and managing resource limitations, which occasionally slowed progress.
